“The hazel itself is the source of my inspiration; it's
shape and form dictates what might be possible...”
Paula Bradley

Corylus chairs are unique pieces created in Wicklow from local hazel and Irish hardwoods. The chairs come in all sizes for both adults & children, in many styles such as dining, fireside and armchair and individual feature pieces. (See gallery for samples)

Having been taught and inspired by Cork based Master Greenwood chair maker Alison Ospina in 2004, Paula Bradley began crafting chairs, just outside the small heritage village of Newcastle in Wicklow and now it is her passion.

Most of the hazel is harvested by Paula and her partner Jack on their home townland of Slate near Newcastle in Co Wicklow. The word Slate is derived from the Irish word ‘slat’ meaning staff, rod or wand so it is likely that hazel coppices have been managed for a long time on this land. As this area grew wild and unmanaged for many years, much of the hazel has grown into amazing and interesting shapes.

While Paula enjoys making contemporary rustic hazel chairs from unseasoned greenwood - combining sanded and natural hazel - a fascination with human forms in wood is becoming more and more a part of her work and she integrates these into the chair forms.
